Email Outage Update

Some Cox customers are continuing to experience an outage with their Cox email service this morning. Restoring service remains our top priority and Cox technicians are making progress in this effort. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. Our next update will be at 8 a.m. ET if services are not restored by then.

Considering how long it's been down, will you be refunding our money for that time period?  All my information for an up coming flight is on that site and now I can't access it.  Service has always been poor and now this.  Either fix it or give us back our money.

12 hours downtime, and counting. That's "two nines" reliability for the calendar year, and we're not done yet. And that's for just this week's outages (not counting the multi-hour failure earlier this week).

tracert shows a valid route from my house to mail.east.cox.net.

For a company like Cox, its not all that expensive to build data centers that are fault-tolerant. Redundant server hardware, virtualized servers, redundant storage arrays, data replicated to one hot site and one cold site, etc. This outage ought to generate some "help wanted" ads at Cox, for a network services manager and some senior network engineers. This ain't 1995. Routing, e-mail, and DNS are like electricity; "five nines" is the new normal.

I can't imagine recommending Cox to a business customer.

Yes, it's been 12 hours now since I noticed a problem with e-mail.  This is ridiculous.  Are you guys doing an upgrade or what?  Having working in IT for 18 years (programmer/DBA), I can tell you that customers don't get as pissed off when they're told what's going on.  Just a suggestion.

Mail service still down in Oklahoma City  - December 15, 2012 at 6:37AM.  This is crazy - no mail service should be down this long.  Maybe I should change  mail service so i can get dependable service?

The poster above has it right.  Distributed, replicated, fault tolerant systems were in use well before even 1995, and decades later Cox does not have these?  Where's your software written, in India?  China?

I doubt its a network issue. Im going to say its a loss of the email database, and they are trying to restore it.  Prob used a raid5 array to save money. When it is finally back up, I wouldnt be surprised if we are missing emails.

It has been will over 12 hours here in NE.  Actually went out sometime around 2 pm yesterday and they apparently have no clue what is going on.. They are much like the Obama administration when it comes to transparancy - there is none!
