Cox, Virginia, Scientific Atlanta 8240HDC, non-Contour.
Here is the scenario:
* I have a season pass for The Walking Dead (AMC, 9 PM) and Talking Dead (AMC, 10 PM)
* I start watching TWD around 9:30 or so, so I can skip all the commercials.
* At 10:00, I'm watching TWD when all of the sudden, the DVR bails out of playback and switches to "live" - i.e. it starts recording Talking Dead AND it switches to it, even though I am actively watching TWD.
Why doesn't it stay on my playback of TWD when I am actively watching it?

I have exactly the same problem with my SA box in Fairfax County VA
Watching a recorded show, any show, and at 10 pm exactly the box switches to a live channel. Clearly the box is receiving some external signal that causes this. I can go back to the recorded list and select the show, the self t resume and I'm right back where I was. Just slightly older. I've reported it a couple of times, but tech support acted like they had never heard of this. It's a fairly new problem, and seems to have arrived about the time of the latest software change on the box.
the box has also mysteriously started truncating recordings. A fairly high percentage (~20%) wind up being only partially recorded. Occasionally, it won't record a scheduled recording at all.

We'd like to investigate this. When the recording switched to a live feed, does it always switch to the same channel or the channel it was on prior to accessing the recording? Is there a message that flashes on the screen prior to switching to live TV? Also when this occurs, are you able to access the recorded program that you were watching?
