Cox Connect 2

We have a new Cox Connect 2 cable box and several features are great but a few are terrible. My biggest complaints are:

Caller ID is no longer displayed on the TV

The fast forward feature for recorded shows is practically useless. You can only go forward or backwards in 5 minutes increments. Sort of defeats the purpose. Looks like Cox bent to pressure from advertisers so viewers could no longer skip commercials,

Setting up recordings is more cumbersome that the old system as is deleting recordings already viewed.

Just wondering if Cox has any updates planned to make Connect 2 more uses friendly. We might just go back to our old box.

I doubt it since it's not their product. They licence the X1 tech from Comcast, so I think they could only make minor changes. Similar to how they licensed powerboost from Comcast then changed the idle throttle to work better on Cox. I think they will eventually work out a new API to bridge caller ID to X1, but I don't think they will touch the UI.

Hi Bill,

We are working to integrate TV Caller ID into Contour 2, and I'm sure there will be other tweaks as we move along. I'll forward your comments to our product design folks. Thanks for taking the time to post!

Two thoughts for your fast forward issue:

1) The five min skip that you mentioned is done with the page up button.  The fast forward button functions just like the old box with increasing speed upon each tab and continuous fast forward until you push play.

2)  If you are expecting to use a one button skip, rather than the regular fast forward button, you can change the behavior of the page up button so that it skips in 30 second blocks instead of 5 minutes.  Just press EXIT three times and then 0030 on the keypad.  Instructions are at this link to a CNet article.  It also tells you how to put it back if you don't like it:

http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-program-a-30-second-skip-button-for-xfinity-x1/

For user friendliness, I've actually been struck by how easy it is to use, particularly recording and deleting shows.  But that's definitely a personal opinion.  So, I hope the 30 sec skip helps you.

Cox did contact me and I was wrong. I was trying to fast forward using page up but there is a fast forward that works similar to the old box. The instructions are a little confusing. Cox is working on a fix for caller ID. Recording and deleting once I learned how to use it works just fine. Therefore I withdraw my complaints about Connect 2

Like all new things, there will be bugs to work on, but I can tell you that as of right now, the caller ID won't show up on your TV.  That function won't work with Contour 2 until sometime this summer when there is a firmware update.
