i have a randomly intermittant problem with my cable modem, which from time to time seems to lose it's connection and can only be reconnected by unplugging and replugging the coax input cable. My question is simple - can i take the modem to a cox store and get a replacement over the counter, or will they insist on a home visit from a tech service guy?

What model modem do you have? Do you rent it? If not, you can buy a new one at the Cox store, but you may want to make sure it's a problem with the modem and not something else before spending money.
