Cable line or Modem Problems?

I have the CG300D NETGEAR Modem that im renting from Cox. The problem is that it is sporadic service at best. I had a technician come out and look at the cable hookup line in the house only & said they were fine. He even tested the line & his machine showed "static" but he hooked up the modem again & it worked...for a whole 15 minutes straight! Soon later that day it went back to sporadic. Is the problem the modem or deeper then that?

When the connection drops are you seeing the modem's lights change or are you seeing a error/status change on the computer or device when it goes interment?

The lights stay green on the box...the devices like phone or tablets or laptop just hang then timeout or say not connected to server.

Hi Michael5150,

Are any devices wired directly to the WiFi Modem to see if you lose wired and wireless connection simultaneously? Is there a Y splitter connected to the coax between the wall and modem?

Hello..strictly modem to wall.

Could you remove the coaxial cable coming from the modem and unplug the modem for 2-3 minutes. Place the coaxial cable back and plug the modem back in. Let us know what lights you are seeing on the front of the modem.

I get all the typical reboot lights..all green...nothing out of the ordinary.  Then after it reboots I get 4 green on the left side of the box & one on the right.  The wifi works for like 5 minutes then everything hangs when I check out websites.

Having the exact same issue man. Been happening the last 3 days non stop. Will be playing online or surfing the web and the signal just dissapears. The modems lights sometimes change sometimes don't. And even when it is working my download speed is at like 20 mbps and upload doesn't even hit 1 Mbps which makes it *** useless.

Hi kylarstern91 and  MICHAEL5150, have you had a tech come out to investigate the issue?

Yup!  Had him here.  He didn't check the lines or the wall..just fiddled with the coax cable and advised me sometimes the threads aren't on right...?  He didn't know anything about the wifi box so just kinda shrugged it off...but he replugged the cord into the wifi box & has been the case, it worked.  He did stay for 10 minutes & it actually worked fine on cell & tablets, then soon later it became sporadic again.  I'm just trying to find out if I should return this wifi box or is it the problems with the wall connections or cable lines.

With it being a all in one gateway it is harder to narrow down wireless issues directly but if hardwired devices stay connected when the wireless goes down it would be a problem with the Netgear. Beyond that with the wireless does the network name drop from the list of available connections or do the wifi devices get some kine of error message when trying to access the internet?

The wifi network name actually does stay on while the internet drops...it mentions no connection to server when it does drop.

@MICHAEL5150

If all wireless devices are dropping connection it sounds like it is something internal to the gateway.  It may be a good idea to swap it for a different one, we can schedule a tech appointment or you could go into a local service center.

I just tossed one of those exact same modems in the trash.  It worked for a month and then died.  Just saying.
