2nd Modem

Question

I have originally had  3 separate IP addresses on my account so I use a switch not a router I also own all my internet equipment. I am wanting to move 1 of my computers to the basement, to far to run a cable and wifi is not going to happen. Can I add a second modem downstairs to my cable and have it activated by cox.
