Why can't I change my DNS servers

I would like to use Open DNS to protect my kids from questionable things on the internet and Cox parental controls are a joke. Why are my DNS servers locked in by cox? Please let customers adjust their own settings like any other ISP.

Hello. Due to the functionality of the panoramic wi-fi modems, some features and settings are limited. How can I get rid of the Panoramic modem and still have TV as all cox gave me were wireless boxes.

If you need an option that lets you use your own router you could switch to coax based receivers which would make the Panoramic Wifi router no longer required.
