How do I get rid of the black banner that is behind my closed caption text? Recently appeared I’m guessing within the last two weeks.

Go into your CC setting and try to find the background option. Check out this link for closed captioning settings on Contour: www.cox.com/.../contour-2-accessibility-settings.html or www.cox.com/.../adjusting-closed-caption-settings-on-a-contour-receiver.html .
