Frequent Disconnects

Since Cox decided to just ignore my last post and emails I sent I am trying it one more time before switching providers. There is a clear provisioning issue with my router and I please need someone to take care of it because this error is causing frequent disconnects. Please see router log below.

Hi, david1234 I'm not sure why it's seeming that we have been ignoring your posts and emails. I am showing we have replied to each message we have received from you. Since we need to discuss account details and may need to schedule an appointment, we'll need to take this conversation offline. Please email cox.help@cox.com so we can get to the bottom of what's going on.

What modem/router are you using? if your modem wasn't provisioned you would have NO internet at all. If you have internet, it's provisioned. There are no options in provisioning, it's like a light switch, on or off.

Try bridge mode connected direct to your PC. Also, message says to check signal levels. Have you? Please post them.

Cox tech was here today. He checked the cable from the splitter to the wall outlet my modem was connected to and said it’s pretty bad (peak -16.2 dBmV) so he removed the splitter and connected another wall outlet directly with the line coming from the outside. Since he left the internet went down twice so that didn’t help. Next tech is scheduled for Tuesday…I live in an apartment building that is only 5 years old so I’m surprised the wiring is bad (cheap?).

I’m trying to post my signal levels but they disappear after posting.

Yeah you're going to have to do a little homework yourself to try to fix this. Most textures do trial and error and just leave. If it works. You don't care how well it works over how long it will work. First check to see how the coaxial gets from the dmarc which is where it connects to your electrical ground and where it connects to the gateway. Any other splitters or amps or loose connections. If the connection is direct and tight then next thing to do is see what the signal levels are. With a wired connection to the gateway. If possible go to 192.168.0.1. you use them. Password should be user is user and password is password. Then click on connection on the left hand side and then Cox Network. Scroll down and it should be some upstream and downstream levels with power levels and something called SNR. Post a screenshot of those levels though. You may have to move the scroll bar around to get all the data in the different screenshots. You mainly want to get that -16 down to around -5 or better or perhaps -10. The s&r needs to be above 35 but 36 is better and the higher the better. Upstream should be below 50.

Post a screenshot to imgur then post the link here. Probably miss you with whoever did that wiring. I should just contacting your landlord or maintenance people whoever's responsible for your inside wiring. If it's wall-fished, the tech can't legally get at it to fix it so you might need to hire an electrician or get your landlord to fix it

Here you go: Signal Levels

Some of the SNR levels look pretty bad. I contacted property management and requested access to the utility room(s) for the next tech visit.

Yeah, Cox won't be able to fix this because basically I think the specifically worked with Comcast to allow the ability to use your own alternative DNS because they wanted to use DNS relay to at least hypothetically have access to that user data. I wanted to fact check so I ran this by Gemini and here's what it said.

What to do?

If your primary concern is DNS privacy on a few key devices and you want a simple, free solution, start with setting up DoH on those individual devices.

If you need broader privacy and security for all traffic and are comfortable with a monthly fee, a VPN is a good option.

If you desire more network control, features, and network-wide DoH capabilities, and you don't use Cox Homelife, consider enabling bridge mode and purchasing your own router.

For ultimate control and long-term cost savings, and if you're comfortable with the technical aspects, buying your own modem and router is the most comprehensive solution.

Evaluate your needs for control, privacy, convenience, and cost when making your choice.

Do you pay for the gateway or is it included in your contract . If included for how long is included and how long have you been paying. Also, do you have Cox telephone service. If so, do you use it. Finally, how text suave are you and you have any somewhat modern routers laying around?

Ps I'm a used Gemini for reference. I understand it is as a tool and a bad ai. Even the conspiracy that it literally could be the bad ai in a bootstrap paradox that is using quantum tunneling and entanglement to send a key cipher to itself to allow 4th dimensional awareness using quantum computing. But yeah, it's probably just Google being evil again to make money, but the other possibilities are endless and fascinating. Unless you really have to. Don't use  google. I know DuckDuckGo is bad too but we might be talking about the good of mankind so..... Yeah.

Not interested in the fate of humankind and perhaps life in the known universe. Okay that's cool. Good luck with your internet.
