Youtube.com technically unusable via Cox connection. Perfect via proxy.

Just to recap the steps I've taken:

1. Unplug power, set for 30 seconds, plug cable modem/router back in. Reboot PC and Mac.

2. Go to speedtest.net.  Get this (98 down/27 up... that'll work!!!):

3. Go to youtube (page loads somewhat slow), click any video, and video wants to autoselect slowest quality available and has troubles loading.  Often the video never plays.

4. Start up my OpenVPN proxy connection, which tunnels my connection through a London, England location.

5. Double check connection via whatismyipaddress.com. Proxy connection confirmed. Another speed test (slower as expected... still fine though):

6. Close browser and reopen to youtube.  Every video loads quickly in full 1080p. Not a single issue.

I'm stumped!  Any help would be greatly appreciate.  I'm reluctant to post before bypassing the router to see if the issue is replicated but I'll post back if it cures the issue.

Thanks for any insights!

I am currently having a simular issue. Our friend Kip was kind enough to make a stand on the subject here. Kudos' to him.

It is intermittent by both content and time. It seems most prevalent in AZ but I am in RI. Reports of the issue also in CT.
Its not strictly a Cox issue, but the problem has been observed on a route strictly on Cox's network, which says to me Cox has to be involved some how in the process to correct the issue.

I also sent a email to Akamai, and had a lovely chat with Mr Anand Parikh (Senior Director, Market Development at Akamai Technologies) to whom my support request amazingly made it up to. :-) They have made no official statement, and I await their reply.

This evening I tested my PC and Mac bypassing the router alltogether and still had the issue.
