Wifi Issues
I have the cox preferred level of internet. I get a fluctuating wifi speed of 0.1 Mb to 10 Mb with it regularly in the low single digit accompanying a high ping. I moved the router to the cable jack next to my pc and used an ethernet connection and my problem was fixed 50+ Mb regularly with a low ping. It then caused my roomates to have crazy slow wifi for the smart tv and ps4. The router was moved less than 30 feet and yet it caused them to have connection issues. Any suggestions on how to make this work better? Could I get a second router just for my self?

As you've discovered, there are quite a few factors that impact wireless signal strength. Distance from the router, obstacles such as walls between your device and the router, and interference from other wireless devices are probably the biggest areas of concern. Cox High Speed Internet advertised speeds are based on a direct connection to the modem, so place your router where as many devices as possible can have a direct connection.
Be sure to keep the router away from things like microwave ovens, baby monitors, cordless phones, and any other devices that may be a source of RF interference. If you live in an apartment building where close neighbors are also using a wireless network, try changing your router settings to wireless channels 1, 6, or 11 to see if it improves wireless connectivity.
