I was having problems with my rented router from COX - the Cisco DPC3825. The problems were intermittent but occasionally my computer would be dropped from the WiFi throughout the day. I also had streaming problems watching video on the tele. I finally decided to visit a COX store today and have it switched out for a new one. They gave me a NETGEAR CG3000D-RG.
'Great', I thought.
I get it home, put it in and in the last hour the WiFi has dropped connection a dozen times. I look at the router and it has reset itself. It resets itself every few minutes. Everything connected to it loses connection.
I have no idea what to do next.

When you say the Wifi drops, do you mean ONLY the Wifi drops? And the wired connections stay online?
If so, and your having that problem with multiple devices, then I would suspect intermittent interference. Heater, Microwave, phones, certain lighting, etc. On the other hand, If only one wireless connection is dropping, then I would start with updating the wireless driver.
Finally, if all the internet (wired and wireless) is going down at same time, then maybe it has nothing to do with the gateways, but the signal going into the device. You can find them on the netgear's 192.168.0.1 webpage Maintence > Modem Status > . See page 28-29 of manual for specifics.

The router is power-cycling itself. I should clarify too that my old router (The Cisco DPC3825) did NOT do this. This is new behavior entirely. Obviously, once it restarts itself, all WiFi connections are dropped.

Then I think its best to wait for a moderator to chime in. Maybe they can look at your signal levels and firmware.

I e-mailed my information, as you requested. The router has reset itself twice in the last half hour. Here is what is in the error log:

Well, I had a COX technician come out the other day and replace the Netgear with the same Cisco I had before. Unfortunately, I'm back to the same problems I had before the Netgear now. I wish COX would maybe give me a dual band router - this 2.4GHz just isn't cutting it anymore, I think.

I pay monthly for the router I have now. It would be nice if I could switch it out for a dual band router. I mentioned this to the technician the other day and he said he only had one dual band router that was scheduled to be installed somewhere else. So, he gave me the same Cisco router I had before and with it, the old problems have returned. I have tried switching the radio channels many times and yes, the area I live in is quite congested with other channels already - some 12 or so.
I would love to resolve this matter with my router. I have been a COX customer for a little over a year now and I'd like to remain so. What would you suggest I do other than keep switching radio channels on the router?
