VM Prices & Blocked Calls
Hi- I hate that we don't have voice mail on our phone. Is there an additional price to have voice mail? My second question is: I am SUPPOSED to NOT have our phone number listed on anything as well as I have blocked it on the DNC Registry, yet I still come home daily to at least 8 missed calls... all from businesses or telemarketing. If I have to pay additionally every month for my number to be blocked, then I expect not to be getting these types of calls on a daily basis. Where did I go wrong with this ? Also, am I able to block specific numbers from calling our home?

Who knows where telemarketers get your name and newly assigned number. Any "trusted" business you gave it to might have given it to their third-party affiliate. Then they pass it on, and on and on. The way I fundamentally understand the DNC Registry is they give your number to businesses that register with the FTC. Yes, telemarketers are supposed to register with the FTC. Once the business has your number, they're supposed to remove your number from their call list. That sounds great, but your number is now in the unscrupulous underworld of scammers and frauds.
If you're relying on trust to protect your personal information with Cox, utility companies and the FTC, your recent robocalls should open your eyes.
You can pay Cox more money to block calls; however, that service is limited to a few numbers. Moreover, how do you block fake ("spoofed") numbers? The numbers aren't traditionally assigned by a telephone company. Since VOIP, you can make calls with computers and create your own number. I've had MY name and number call me. I'm currently blocking MY number.
Robocalls are computer generated. The business owner and low-skilled phone drones don't even know they're calling you. The computer war-dials thousands of calls per minute and if there's an answer, it'll forward the call to a queue for the next available phone drone. If a drone is available, they'll run their scam. If none are available, you'll either wait or hang up. The call is just an automated process. An automated process with fake numbers to work around your blocks.
What to do? You can buy a standalone call blocker. I don't know what Cox charges per month to block a few numbers but whatever it is, this device should pay for itself in a year or so. You could configure the call blocker to only allow numbers you want to call you (white listing, allow listing, etc). I read good reviews on the unit from Digitone.
