Unstable connection

Ok, I know I have the slowest internet cox offers, but why do I ALWAYS have a lousy connection. Even when I am JUST using my phone and nothing else is using the internet and I can't get any closer to the router and it's the middle of the night...and I have the worst connection. I never not have problems with your internet which is why I downgraded since all the internet speeds seem to be super slow. I know I'm not the only one with this problem because I read the forums. What can I do besides switch providers? Thanks?

I took a look from this end and I'm not seeing any obvious problems as of yet.  I'd suggest for starters trying to see if you have the same issues using wired connections as well as signing into your cox.net account and running the speed test on our site to see what speeds your actually able to achieve and we can go from there.

What do you mean "lousy" connection? Do you mean your wireless signal strength? By the sounds of it, maybe your cordless phone is interfering with your wireless signal? What kind of phone and router do you have?

Yes I mean my wireless signal, no phone, just a modem/router device: Zoom series 1092 model 5350 cable modem/router with wireless N. I've moved the device all over the house to try and get the best signal but it doesn't matter where I put it.

The only things that use a wireless signal are my cell phone and computer. I ran the test and it gives me the same speeds as what I pay for, 5 mbps download and 1 mbps upload. It hasn't been SO bad until as of late where nothing really wants to connect. I mainly need the internet for browsing and so I don't use all my data on my phone, but with the unstable connection, all my apps run very slowly or not at all. I try to limit the number of devices and websites since I use the lowest connection.

The wireless range you get from a device has nothing to do with Cox. Have you tried troubleshooting with Zoom? I am not familiar with the brand.

I forgot to mention that when I connect my cell to the wifi it read "CONNECTED TO ZOOM (SECURE)", then after a while it will just go to "YOUR CONNECTION IS UNSTABLE"....that's what got me to this because it happens every time.

Does anyone live close to you that may have a wifi device that could be interfering?

I understand you say there isnt anything else connecting to the internet but do you have:

cordless phone
microwave ovens
blue tooth devices
cordless keyboards
cordless mice
cordless game controllers
wireless baby monitors
garage door openers
radio controlled toys
Basically anything that is wireless
As well as neighbors with all of that equipment and their routers.

Well if I have to deal with all that I might as well just cancel cox. There's never not going to be wireless devices around and if that's the case, this problem will never go away. There is always something wrong with the internet, or the cable, and i'm sure if I had phone as well, there would be problems with that. I've had Cox for over a year now, and I've had Cox in the past. I'm just done dealing with the service because everywhere I seem to go, there are problems to be had. Bye forums and Cox!

Its a pitty, because we could have helped you. The problem your describing is between your laptop (or what ever) and the Zoom gateway. Its not a matter of fault, its just knowing that tells where the problem is, and thus where to start troubleshooting. Wireless issues aren't solved easily. Despite wireless being made these days to SEEM simple, the technology behind it is very complex so troubleshooting requires more then your normal amount of technological knowledge. If switching ISP helps, if maybe some gateway they offer might work better for you, but your baseline problem in orginal post has nothing to do with your ISP. Either way good luck and ta-ta.
