Trying to establish new email address and have required space to provide Recovery email
Following the instructions to establish new email address I have required space to provide Recovery email but receive following:
Error: You've entered a Cox.net email address. Please provide an alternate email address you check regularly to ensure you receive important account information.
Since cox email is only address how to you establish new email address?

techgal,
This has been fixed. You should no longer need to use a “non Cox” email when setting up or resetting your email address. We appreciate your patience while we worked to resolve this.

Tiffany, please give it a try. Moe is correct, you can't add any new e-mail address without entering a non-Cox recovery address. See below, the recovery address is my primary account address (redacted for privacy):

I entered a non-cox Recovery email address. Got an emai at that email address, pressed Continue, and then received the message "Your email has been changed to (the non-cox email address)". Pretty scary given that I used my daughter's gmail address!
i'm wondering:
1. Did anything really change? Both my daughter's non-cox address and the new one I was setting up seem to be intact.
2. How do I change the Recovery email address to the primary email address for our account.
Thank you.

EllenH, is doesn't seam like you can change the recovery address to any cox.net address, including the primary address.

When you hover over or click on the blue question mark to the right of the recovery email address box, what specifications does it list?

Here is the popup:
If you can't read it, I transcribed it below:
"Cox is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you are notified of all changes made to your account. By providing your email address, Cox will send you important notifications when certain proprietary account information has been changed. This is another step Cox Communications is taking to become your Trusted Provider."
It doesn't say anything about requiring a non-Cox email address, the first you are notified of it is the error message when you try to continue. Anyway, requiring a user to create and use an email other than Cox before he/she can create a Cox address is ridiculous.
Also note, when I got the error I did not check the box to "Allow Authorized User complete access to all billing and payment areas." this was just an email account.

I tested this with my cox.net account, and you are absolutely correct. When creating a secondary email address or when altering your account "Identity & Preferences", the system won't let you use a cox.net email address as your "Recovery Email Address."
In the past, users were able to use their Primary Cox User ID as their "Recovery Email Address." It looks like that was changed at some point, either on purpose or by accident. I'll forward this issue (along with your comments) to our Webmasters to verify their intentions. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

I'm having the exact same problem trying to set up an email for my grandson. I'm giving up and will set up an account for him on google or yahoo.
Had to refresh this page just to get an 'add reply' button to show up.

I'm in the same boat and this is horrible!
What if someone doesn't have another e-mail address? Why does Cox need to invade and spam my other e-mail accounts?
I've already swapped countless e-mails with everyone from Gary McCollum (your previous CEO before he left) down to Keyote M. over my glitchy cable TV service over the past few years that still seems to require a weekly box reset or power cycle.
I guess you will not be happy until everyone votes with their wallet and has a Verizon.com email account.

Why is this fix taking so long so we customers can establish new email accounts? Even your support page for establishing new email accounts dated October 2015 does not show the added Recovery email box. Beginning to wonder if anyone is really working coding issue. Please provide timeline when we can start establishing new email accounts and update your instructions. Thanks

When I tested this with my account and ran into the same problem, I reported the issue up the chain. That was 12/30/15. Due to the holiday, only 5 business days have passed since then. We hope to have an update for you soon!

Just wanted to let everyone know that was able to establish a new email address via the chat box as representative was able to set up email address. To change the temp password do it by logging into new email address with temp password then change password at Webmail site as if you try to change password via Internet tools you will have same Recovery issue. Good luck
