SMTP Server

For the last couple of hours the SMTP Server has been going down and then coming back every few minutes.  Is anyone else experiencing this problem.  I'm located in Omaha, NE.

Hi laskie, I do not see any reports of the SMTP server going down then coming back up. Are you getting a specific error message? What email application are you using?

Mike J - You don't need 'reports' of email server problems. just read this forum.  Cox has had  a problem for two months and can't/won't fix it.

Also in Omaha, plenty of problems here.

For the last few days I've been unable to send outgoing mail, even though all my SMTP settings were correct.
Apple Mail on OS X 10.10.1 (Yosemite).

Today I am building new mailbox accounts from scratch, following Cox's Mac email support article to the extent reasonable (you only go up to OS X 10.7, for shame).  So far the first test account has sent properly. I notice setup defaults to IMAP not POP3. Second test account is failing despite correct settings: keeps telling me my password is incorrect. Fun!

THANK YOU Tiffany!!!  It certainly is refreshing to have someone connected with COX acknowledge that there is a problem, rather than telling us to check our cables, check our email settings, and reboot the modem.

I'd certainly be willing to try increasing the timeout threshold of my mail client, but don't think that is possible with Apple Mail. Do you know of a way?  I'm perfectly willing to go into the terminal if that's what it takes.

I'm glad to see a suggestion for a technical modification to improve service.  The last time I saw a suggestion from a Moderator was to check emails less often to reduce the amount of timeout messages.

For help setting the Server Timeout in Outlook 2010 see the server-timeout setting section on this page from MSFT... https://support.microsoft.com/kb/813514?wa=wsignin1.0 Increasing the timeout value to 2 minutes still results in timeout errors with IMAP for me... Task 'Synchronizing subscribed folders for Al's Cox Email.' reported error (0x800CCC0E) : 'Outlook cannot synchronize subscribed folders for Al's Cox Email. Error: Cannot connect to the server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Still getting sync errors (see the previous post) after increasing the time-out value to 3 minutes...

Sooner Al - probably should use the other solution suggested by Cox

You can avoid errors by not checking you mail.
