Rate increase advice

I called Cox today to look into changing my service and received distrubing news.  I was told that my rate will increase next month, because i did not notify Cox that wished to extend my special offers.  I was supposed to do that last month. I was told that an notice was included in my September bill envelope.  How weird is that?  Now my bill will increase from 175 to 197/month.  There was no notice on my bill or email, just this supposed slip in my bill.

I wanted to drop my phone service to reduce my bill and the rep informed me of above.  SHe offered to adjust my bill to 169 if I kept the phone service.  My idea was to reduce my bill by dropping my phone $32 and losing my $8 bundle savings, net $28 less per month.

This is crazy. Slip in mail, no notice on bill, then increase rate by $22 since I didnt call. Who would want a $22 increase by opting no to call???

Any advice??

Complain to the Better Business Bureau or try calling again and letting them know you'll complain.

Last December 2011, i conacted cox, told the lady i wanted to reduce my bill, because i knew i was going to be unemployed, i tried to get rid of the phone and she told me i would have to buy a new modem, well i took back a receiver and got rid of some progamming, so it reduced my billing from around 184, to 124, she gave me a special deal on the phone service, well i though this was for good, well about 6 months later, without any warning they raise to 154, well i kind of just bit the bullet on that one, well on christmas eve i get a billing from them for 176, same minimal programming phone and internet, no warning of increase, now i will just get rid of cox and go with the antenna and net flicks and use at&t for the internet, i know a lot of people that have and are planning to do just that,  Just getting way to expensive for what you get, so they are pricing there self out of my business.

It sounds like the person you spoke with was able to get you on a temporary promotional rate to lower your bill which has now expired.  It's possible there are new promotions available if you speak with our sales team again.  As for the phone/modem the eMTA modems we provide for phone service are loaned to customers free on the condition that phone service also be kept active on the account.  If you cancel your phone services the modem would either need to be returned or I believe you now have the option to rent it.

I've loved Cox Cable.  Had them for years (over 13 years at my current address, 13 years at the old address and my parents had them many, many years at my current address before I did).  Always considered them to be the best deal for the price.  No more.  I found out that my bill has gone up 70 dollars to $225 per month and will increase again next month (Feb 2013) another 10 dollars all for the same services.  Yes, Cox explains, I had a 35% rate reduction plan that want away in Dec 2012 and a two year loyalty reduction that went away in January 2013.  So, I talked to them about reducing some of my current services to help bring my bill down only because they would not negotiate a new loyalty plan with me.  1.  I turned in the two client servers to the whole house DVR (so just the main room DVR is left).  2.  I had them reduce the phone service to delete the long distance and voice mail.  3.  They also took away channels 100-300 at my request.  So, now instead of a bill of $225.00, my bill will be $199.92 per month which is only a reduction of $25.00!  Next month it goes to $210.00 unless I lock in a 2 year contract.  No way I'm locking it in.  I'm now investigating my options for service else where.

Received bill for Feb and rate went up from $163 to almost $181. Cox is no longer competitive with other services.

When they increased the bill at the same time last year, I called to try to negotiate. I was willing to drop some channel 'paks' that I never, ever watched, but was told if I dropped more than 2 'paks', then I would lose the bundle discount I received, and then my bill would increase more than if I just kept it the same. The sales rep tried to talk me into getting a 2 year contract, so I would be guaranteed no price increases for 2 years, but would be penalized if for any reason I had to drop Cox (even if I had to move out of town).  The sales rep argued with me when I refused to do the contract.  I finally filed a complaint with the city, whereas Cox agreed to lower my rate for 6 months - but when the 6 months was up, I paid the full price. Now on the latest bill, I see that beginning next month the rates are going up again - everything from TV, to telephone, the FCC access charge, and for internet (even when I receive lower speeds for what I pay for).  They make it impossible for you to go online and choose your packages, or even see what is available and for what price. And I am beyond frustrated - I do not own an HD television, I do not have a DVR, and I do not subscribe to any pay movie channels (only the basic movie pak).  I am getting the least amount of services for the most amount of pay.
