Problem with SB6141 modem
I just upgraded from an older Motorola modem DOCSIS 2.0 to the Motorola SB6141 which supports DOCSIS 3.0. Ever since I plugged in and activated this modem, my connection has periodically dropped. The old modem I had almost never had a problem and I am using the same router - Linksys Cisco E1200. I have tried resetting the modem and router and I switched out the power supply to see if that was the problem but I still have the same issue. Does anyone have any idea how to remedy my problem.

Hi Edward,
It is cycling/ shutting down on its own. It happens even when I'm not home and computer is not on.

Is the modem plugged into a surge protector? Also, if you feel the power brick/supply of the modem, does it feel warm?

I've had the modem for about a week. Modem is plugged into a surge protector. The power supply is not warm. I've tried switching out the power supply already and still had the same problem. I will probably try to return it

What kind of surge protector? Anything else big plugged into it like a PC or TV? Most surge protectors don't have isolated sockets, so a strong draw on one outlet can effect the power going to the other outlets, sometimes even if just for a micro second. Like flushing the toilet and having the water drop at the shower. This become mores common and prevalent as the surge protector gets older. Might want to try a direct connection to the electrical socket first before replacing the modem, in-case its that.

I tried a direct connection after reading your post and looking at the log overnight, the modem is still resetting. I think I will just have to return the modem at this point. Thanks for the help.
