Old PC Monitor as New TV?
I got a new computer monitor, so I think I am going to set the old monitor up as a tv. But the old monitor does not have HDMI, only S-Video input. So can I pick up a new HD cable box that will work with my monitor (I have a set of speakers I can use for sound)? How will that affect my bill and will I have to pay anything at the cox retail store?

I don't see as point of it being a HD box since S-Video will be limited to 720 x 480. Most boxes will have a S-video option though.
As for how it will effect your bill, it depends on what you get and what you have now. Do you have other cable boxes already?

The minibox only has RF (coax) and HDMI output, so that eliminates it as a possibility. You will need a digital receiver which Cox rents at $8.50/mo, either HD or SD, same price. I agree with Tecknowhelp, IMHO, that's a lot to pay since composite / s-video limit you to SD only. You will have to call Cox to find out if a deposit is required if you pickup a box.

Do you still plan to move forward with your idea? Allen and Tecknowhelp provided good things to think about. The answer really depends on your planned use and what you want to watch on the "TV."

Is the monitor S-Video only or does it have other inputs too? Perhaps a HDMI-DVI adapter? Though that will prove difficult with HDCP and splitting the audio.
