I "upgraded" to Contour recently, and yesterday I got my box. So far, I am not impressed at all. First off, all the commercials and advertising say I can record 6 channels at once and store 1000 hours of programming, but apparently, that's not the box I got, that costs extra and the rep I talked to when I placed my order did not tell me that, nor did the tech who came to install it. As a result, when I went to set up my recordings last night, I had a number of conflicts, and instead of showing the conflicts in the upcoming recordings section, it just didn't list them at all. So in the future, how will I know if I had a conflict? Will it show up somewhere, or will I just have to remember that I usually record 3 programs at 10 on a Thursday and figure out which one isn't set to record (or worse, didn't record)? What is the "missed" recording section? Is that where conflicts will show up, or is it for programs that don't record for some reason? Exactly how much space do I have to save shows?
I don't like that my tv has to be set to HD in order to clearly see the guide. Most of the shows I watch are SD to save space on the DVR and because when my tv is set to HD, I can't use my DVD player.
I find the menus and setting up recordings tedious and not user friendly at all. When I'm trying to set a series to record, if there is a conflict with two other shows, instead of accepting the series and showing the show in the list as not recording, it just doesn't show up at all. I have to go to my list of recordings, figure out where the conflict is, and try to resolve it before going back to the guide and resetting the show to record.
It would be nice if there was a section on the website, or even On Demand, that gives you the ins and outs of the Contour, instead of just extolling it's virtues. Maybe it is somewhere and I'm just missing it?
If the only "upgrade" I get with the Contour is that it will recommend shows to me, I might as well go back to my tried-and-true Rovi box...at least I knew how to work that one, and it seemed much more user-friendly.
Sorry for all the complaining, but I am really disappointed right now.

What is the model number of the DVR you received? Did you have a WHDVR network installed? Have you read the manual?

Thanks for your reply, Domino. According to the "my services" page, I have a GMH8742. I never got a manual, when I asked the tech about one, she told me it was On Demand, which it most certainly isn't. So thank you for the links, I will check them out.
Does WHDVR network mean the whole house DVR? No, I do not have that, just the one box connected to one tv.
