No speed improvement after upgrading modem

I have upgraded to a DOCSIS 3.0 (NetGear N450) modem today, and my download speed is now lower than with the old modem, just the upload speed is three times faster, and the ping is up from 30 to 60.

I was expecting the promised download speed of 50 Mps, I guess I was wrong.

In the modem settings, which channel should I choose? It is currently set to "auto".

At least it was very eaasy to get back online, and even wi-fi was easy and quick.

Hi AnneR, go to the Cox website and run the speed test so we can review the results: http://bit.ly/1creInI  Login using your primary Cox email address. Post the results here.

have tested the speed twice today, upload speed is definitely much better than before, download still below or at least the same I had with my old modem, which was a DOCSIS 2.0 and separate router.

What was your old router? Might be easier to bring back the gateway and ask for a DOCSIS 3.0 modem (not gateway) instead.

the old one was a Motorola. The new one is the NetGear N450 CG3000Dv2 and the recommended by COX. Is was told at the COX Solution store that this is the best model for my needs and would give me the speed I pay for.

How are you testing this?  Wired of over WiFi?  What device are you using?

Reason I ask as if you are testing over WiFi, you may be measuring your WiFi speed, not your internet connection.  Your gateway is 2.4GHz 802.11n only.

I ran a test, an iPad 2, 2.4 GHz "n" and got about 34 Mbps download speed.  I had my cell phone right next to the iPad but connected at 5 GHz 802.11ac and got 62 Mbps to the same server.  My PC wired into my router got:

The best way to test your connection is a PC hardwired into the gateway.  That eliminates WiFi as a variable.

Couple reasons. First, because thats a direct replacement for what you had before (a DOCSIS 2.0 modem), it doesn't change any of your wireless settings. Second, its easier to troubleshoot with two devices, because you can isolate the issue to a network (router) issue or a signal level (modem) issue. When the two devices are combined, you can not. Also with 24x8 modems, and DOCSIS 3.1 modems, further down the line, you can upgrade the modem part without touching your network. Bunch more reasons but I won't beat a dead horse.

Not to say the problem isn't fixable using the gateway, just throwing in my 2 cents.

I am using COX speed test and Speakeasy.net, they both give me identical numbers.

Checking the properties of my network (Ethernet) it see a 1GPs.

And by the way I have made changes in the modem settings, only thing I have not changed is the channel, it is set on "auto".

I assume you are showing the result of a wired ethernet connection.  If so, what are your cable signal levels ... from the gateway's main menu under Maintenance select Connection.  Please report the result or post a screen image.

The "auto" channel you refer to, is it the WiFi channel?  I would try setting it to 1, 6, or 11, pick the one with best WiFi result.  If you have an android device, your can install the free "WiFi Analyzer" app.  It will show you all WiFi networks within range and help pick the clearest channel ... whatever, stick with 1, 6, or 11.

Those signal numbers look fine to me.  Maybe someone from Cox can confirm and make additional suggestions.
