New Contour Record 6 DVR in AZ
I have had this new DVR for a week. There is a glitch in the software for recording a series I think. I set the series recorder for New Episodes only, and when I look at the list of scheduled recordings, all of the repeats for the next two weeks are on the list. For shows that are repeated 4 times a day, two or three days per week, this is a lot of unnecessary recordings. Also, when I try to cancel the recordings manually, the shows remain on the list, with a cancel notification indicated. Shouldn't they drop off of the list when cancelled? Is there a way to check/update software on these boxes?

It sounds like the "Channel" Recording Option may have been missed when you initially set up the series recording. This happens when you set up a series recording from a search result instead of through the Guide.
Click the Contour button on your remote control and navigate to the Saved menu. Choose the "Scheduled" menu. Use the arrows to highlight an episode of the series in question, and then press OK. Choose "Options" and then "all episodes." From the Recording Options menu, scroll down to "Channels." The choices are SD Preferred, HD Preferred, and [Channel name] Only. Changing this setting to record a specific channel rather than simply HD or SD should resolve the problem for you.
Please let me know if this helps!

Thanks for the reply, but no, I am aware of that. Just for example, I chose to record the series "Real time with Bill Maher" on HBOHD (channel 1210). I set it up for new episodes on HBOHD only. What got scheduled was every repeat episode on several days throughout the week. At least a dozen in all. It happened on "Last Week tonight" also on HBO.
On both of those examples, it recorded channel 1200 and 1210, both of which are identified only as HBOHD, rather than number... Many of these episodes were repeats, and indicated as such on the guide listing.
I is also annoying that when I manually go down the "scheduled" list and delete the extra recordings, they stay on the list anyway, albeit with an icon that if you get really close to the screen you can see. Why not just drop them from the list of scheduled recordings?
Maybe this is just an HBO issue, I don't know yet. I will attempt to schedule a few more on other channels.

Thanks for providing a few more details. I'm going to duplicate the recording that you set up for "Real time with Bill Maher" on HBOHD and see if I can determine what is causing this to happen. Please test a show on a different channel and let us know the results. That will help define which team I need to loop in to assist with resolution.

Not sure if it relates, but I noticed something you should be aware of: Here in Tucson, we get HBO on both 1200 and 1210, and HBO2 on 1201 and 1211. East and West feeds. They show up on the guide as HDBHD and HBO2HD respectively. When setting up a series recording, I get the option of SD preferred, HD preferred, or HBOHD (HBO2HD) only. Would the fact that there are two HBOHD channels be causing the DVR to mess up the recording? I should note that where I was getting multiple instances of "Real Time with Bill Maher" at the beginning of this thread, now it is not recording any episodes at all. Something changed somewhere. I have set up a few series on other channels, and they seem to work fine. I am loathe to try very many, because I cannot subsequently delete them from the scheduled list. They remain, with an icon and cancelled notification. This makes the scheduled recordings list way too long and cumbersome to work with. Once deleted, they should drop from the list....

I have noticed on our Contour Record 6 DVR, that if set up as series it will remain in schedule recordings even after already recorded are deleted. If you go into series list (below scheduled list) and delete series there it will remove them from scheduled list. Might give that a try on yours.

You’ve hit the nail on the head! I believe the HBO channels are named incorrectly within the Tucson channel map. That’s why recordings scheduled for HBO HD (1200) are also recording on HBO (East) HD (1210). The channel map is not recognizing 1200 and 1210 as different channels. It makes sense that a series recording set to “HD preferred” might record on multiple channels. However, a series recording set to a specific channel should record on that channel alone—even if the name of the channel is displayed only as HBOHD. I’ve asked our AZ Video Engineers to check the channel map. I’ll let you know when I get a reply to my request so we can test it on your end.

Well, at some point it went from recording too many instances of a given program on HBO to none. I have tried testing Real Time with Bill Maher, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Neither series will schedule and record. Perhaps they are still trying to map the channels in Tucson?

Uh, oh! Are there any episodes of Bill Maher or John Oliver showing in the list of Scheduled recordings? If so, please select each recording and choose to cancel ALL episodes (all scheduled recordings). Then check the Guide and see if any of this week's new episodes (of either show) are highlighted to record. (Example: scroll to Friday night and see if the new episode of Bill Maher has the red recording icon. If so, select the episode and choose to cancel ALL.
Once there are no episodes in the Guide displaying the red recording icon and there are no episodes in the Scheduled list, go back to the Guide and scroll to Friday night's new episode of Bill Maher on either channel 1200 and 1210 (pick one). Be sure to use the Guide and not the Search feature to locate the program. Highlight the episode and set it to record only new episodes on HBO HD only. After you've set the recording, press Exit. Also, since you missed Friday night's episode of Bill Maher, find a repeat airing one night this week and set a recording to record ONLY the one episode. I'm hoping to speak to a Contour SME (Subject Matter Expert) today or tomorrow to review the inconsistencies with your experience as well as my own.

There were (are) episodes showing in the list of scheduled recordings, and they have a red “cancelled” icon on the right-hand side. The icon was multiple, i.e., it looked like a stack of coins. I went ahead and followed your instructions for each recording on the list anyway. It seemed to change each one to a single episode recording rather than a series, and now the icon shows cancelled for each one, and it is a single icon.

Sounds good. If future recordings throw any curve balls, or if you notice any other recording oddities, please let us know! We're always happy to help.

They worked fine. It seems that if I highlight a program in the guide, and use the red record button on the remote, it works. If I hit the select button on the program in the guide, and use the options across the bottom of the screen to choose recording options, they don't work. I can live with it.
The important thing is that it only records new episodes on the one channel now. Thanks
