New cable boxes?
I have two TVs that may need new mini boxes. One is a definite need.....runs cable to the TV. The other runs cable to a VCR.
Do I need a mini box for the vcr TV also? I figure yes......but not sure.

The VCR will need a mini-box as you suspected. The RF out on the mini-box will connect to the RF in on the VCR. The mini-box will need to be set to output on either channel 3 or 4 and the VCR will need to remain on the same channel. Once that is setup the mini-box will be used to change channels.

I received two mini-boxes about a week (or less) ago. I initially installed both of them and activited them. Everything seemed to go smoothly ... the remote worked and the channels appeared to be fine (guide worked etc). The next day I turned on one of the TV's and I couldn't recogonize the channels via the guide. Both TVs were messed up.
I took off one of the mini boxes since we use it daily and left the mini box on the second set. I've attempted to activiate the hooked up second TV again and look at it daily. The channels are stilled messed up.
Any assistance will be appreciated.

Could you explain? Was the guide blank? The picture blank? Message? Messed up how? I think a common issue are these mini boxes are being hooked up to outlets that aren't designed for digital encrypted signal. The upstream is bad. The downstream is good, so when you hook it up you get a picture, but then when it goes to activate and can't communicate upstream with Cox, it breaks.

I apologize for being so obtuse .
I can get/select channel(s) via the remote. I can use the guide and select channels from there. It's the channels that seem to be missing on the Guide. Here in Phoenix ABC is channel 15, CBS is channel 5, Fox is channel 10, NBC 12, AMC 43. I can't find any of these in the Guide. I see some digital numbers like 83 is a which is a channel 12 (NBC) weather station and 87 is a CBS weather station.
The first channel number in the guide is 17, 21,22, then onto the 80's.
I appreciate your time.
Thanks,
Tony

Thank you for explaining. So as I understand, you can manually go to ABC,CBS,NBC,Fox,etc and the picture is fine, but when you bring up the guide, the guide data and channel mapping is incomplete. 83 seems to be "KPNX - NBC 12 News Weather Plus" and 87 is "KTVK - CBS Weather Now" as per the channel lineup.
Last, what signal levels does the mini box report? From menu > customer support > technical support > minibox information there should be a RF number, but anything you see.

It's the same on both boxes. I can only select the channels with the remote that are shown on the guide. The serial numbers are CTBFVPKDT and CTBFVNVCJ.
I'll look into the RF number.

If you got the mini boxes, and have the TV starter package, you won't get half your channels, a fact which would've been need to know when I picked up my mini boxes. If you want to get your channels that you paid for, you;ll have to upgrade to the $8.50 a month box/tuner. Yes, that's $8.50 a month per box, not the $2.99 a month for the mini boxes. If you have a higher tier tv package, the mini boxes will work

We’ve updated the services on your mini-boxes. You should be able to complete the auto-activation process. Please let us know if you need additional support.

Could you explain in a little bit more detail what you did to fix the issue? I think others might have the problem and knowing what you did might get the balls rolling if a moderator doesn't happen to be on duty. Was it sending a signal to the box? Adjusting something in the database? Is it anything a customer could fix on their own?
My guess is something to do with buckets. Baaaaaaaaaaa
