Multiple replicates of emails
Hi all, in my wife's cox email inbox, she will receive multiple replicates of some, but not all, emails. It is common that a message might repeat a few times, but one appeared 29 times. All identical, with the same time stamp. Cox tech says it is an error on the sender end, but I am not buying it.

Usually, email duplicates are caused by a problem in the download process. When she is checking her email, is she using webmail.cox.net or a client like Outlook?

Hi Triken, she is using Outlook 365 on a PC as well as email on her iPhone. An issue with the download sort of fits the data as her pc is fairly new and I would say the problem emerged roughly coincident with the new computer. Any ideas as to how to stop this from happening?

Is she only receiving the duplicate email on the new computer? If so, check what you have for a Anti-virus (Norton, Mcafee, Trend,Avast, etc) and check that incoming mail scanning. Even if you didn't install one, its probably comes with a month free of something, and that is likely causing the issue.
What happens is Outlook asks for new mail, but before it can download it, the anti-virus email scanner kicks in and delays it past Outlook timeout period. So the email is scanned and delivered, but since past the timeout period, Outlook just asks for the download again, and thus the duplicate emails. Sometimes it can just be a fluke, other times the email might have complex HTML or attachments that delay the inbound email scanner longer then usual. Hope that helps.
