Motorola SB6141 firmware upgrade

Hi all,
I am a new COX customer, just moved to Las Vegas from Texas. I have been using my own Motorola SB6141 cable modem over there for about a year without any problems. Unfortunately I can't get it to work over here with COX. It is unable to get a steady 'Internet on" green light and keep retrying to connect. So the installation technician 'forced' me to rent a COX Netgear CG300D modem/router.

I much prefer to use my own modem with my own router. I just read that my modem may not have the latest firmware in order to be compatible with COX. I also read that this modem is on COX's approved list. Here are some of the tech info of my Motorola modem:

Model Name: SB6141
Vendor Name: Motorola
Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.3-SCM03-NOSH
Boot Version: PSPU-Boot(25CLK) 1.0.12.
Hardware Version: 7.0
Serial Number: 348781224820222308010001
Firmware Build Time: Aug 18 2011 10:27:53

My question is -- what do I need to do to get the firmware of this modem to be updated by COX? Can I do it myself? Over the phone with a tech support person? or does it require someone to come to my home again?

Thank you very much in advance for all your help.

UPDATE

Tried the same modem again earlier tonight (Sat. night) and this time I got a steady green Internet light. Went through the online provisioning process and changed the modem on my account. Everything seems to be working well and I connected my own router and so far so good. Speeds are the same as the COX rental unit. Also noticed now (early Sunday after midnight) that the firmware is updated:

Model Name: SB6141
Vendor Name: Motorola
Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.12-SCM00-NOSH
Boot Version: PSPU-Boot(25CLK) 1.0.12.18m3
Hardware Version: 7.0
Serial Number: 348781224820222308010001
Firmware Build Time: Mar 12 2013 17:48:19

Will keep testing and checking the system and network for a few more days to see if there are other glitches. Thank you again for your help.

Unfortunately we'd have to get it working on the network first in order to be able to push any firmware to it.  I'm not aware of any firmware related issues that would cause the modem not to sync with us but then again I've never seen the version you're currently running either.  If there is a firmware related problem preventing it from syncing with us the modem will probably have to be upgraded by Motorola.

Thank you very much, ChrisL. I have read that Motorola only refers to the ISPs for upgrade. Is there a way that I can bring it to one of your service centers and get it upgraded by connecting direcely to one of your computers or networks? I just want try everything before going out and buy another one. Thank you very much for your help again.
