So I recently contacted cox ( spectrum) in hopes to upgrade my plan to 2gig since I seen they are now offering unlimited data plans. While speaking to someone in tech support they said that my Netgear cm3000 is not compatible for their 2 gig plans. Has anyone else had this issue, i have done some research and it shows this device is capable of 2.5g.

Hello. The cm3000 is not compatible with symmetrical 2gig service plans. In that situation, you would need to upgrade to a different modem.

They offer the Spectrum wp8 with that plan that is compatible and they do not charge you for it. If you want to add your own router you can bridge that modem to do so.
But like the other common said that wp8 modem works with their symmetrical 2 gig which I believe what I've read it will allow you to have uploads of that speed and downloads of that speed but also the symmetrical has something to do with it in there should be a approved modem list on their website just check first but they could be wrong in the comment. If you have phone service added like VoIP landline with them you have to get the Wp8model no matter what from what I've read

The CM3000 is compatible with standard 2gb service - https://www.cox.com/residential/support/netgear-cm3000.html
If you have "Symmetrical" 2gb service you would need different equipment, but for most areas that I can find, this modem appears to be OK. If you can tell me what area you are in, I will be glad to research that area and what spectrum offers.
BTW, I am running a CM3000, and a RS300 Nighthawk router. I am on 1gb down, 100 mb up - https://www.speedtest.net/result/xxxxxxxx3
