We have digital capability on our TV with a QAM tuner which has choices of x.x channel number. It's direct connected to the coax now. We have upper channels 1xx.x which are both sd and hd. e.g. we have the big 3, PBS,and create in both formats. Do we need a minibox?

Yes, as soon as your area goes all encrypted. QAM won't work on your TV.

As it's been stated multiple times in this forum: All TV's will need either a mini-box, cable card, or Advanced STB. Cox is ENCRYPTING all channels so equipment is needed to decrypt them.
