Hello, I've been a Cox customer for over 15 years but we are now moving to an area out of the Cox territory. How can I keep my email address active? Thanks

The option to keep email addresses active after closing an account is no longer available. One possibility that may work is to transfer your email account to a family or friend's account that is still within a Cox service area if they are still under their 10 email address limit. Note that if you do this your email address becomes part of their account to do with as they please should they decided to transfer or cancel service.

Thanks Chris! That may work. How do I go about doing that?

Chris, are virtual accounts only allowed in some markets?

This is something you could coordinate with the other account holder and by speaking with our technical support.

Virtual accounts are no longer offered since we standardized procedures across all markets.

Standardizing procedures means that now the email server problems will be nationwide instead of being localized.

I'm sure that the reason that Cox will not allow 'virtual email accounts' anymore is that if they were available there would be a mass exodus out of Cox. The only this keeping many people with the company is the hassle of changing all of their email address with contacts and websites.

I doubt many use Cox just for their email. I personally wish Cox would drop email altogether, suggest Gmail, and focus on what a ISP should focus on; providing internet.

Once you have email accounts set up with Cox, the biggest deterrent to dumping Cox is having to redo all of you contacts. In retrospect it was a poor decision to start using Cox for email but when I started using email, Google was only a figment of imagination for Brin and Page.

This is odd because last week I was told on the phone by a cox rep that I could keep my email address with cox for $7 a month (or something close to that) when I move out of the cox service area this month.

I think what the situation is they can still technically do it, but the rule is now they don't. So some representives are still going by the old rules.
