IR Receiver DVR Model?
I emailed Cox tech support about my Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8240HDC DVR. I need to tuck it away in my cabinet but won't have line of sight to the cable/dvr box itself. I asked about using either the USB port in front or the IR 3.5" jack in back of the unit to run an IR Receiver "eye" out of the cabinet to receive my Cox remote control signals. The tech said that the IR port and the USB port were both NON-FUNCTIONAL in this model.
Has anyone tried this with any model of Cox cable box successfully? Is there a newer model (I think the 8240 is like 6 years old by now) that I could boogie on down to my Cox store and trade t;his one in for ..?
Thanks!

Cox claims things are NON-FUNCTIONAL when they don't want to support them. While I have no personal experience with the IR port on the 8240HDC, my brother-in-law had a remote eye connected to his 8240HDC. Worked fine. And a guy on eBay was selling Cisco IRE5712M extenders, which he said worked fine on SA/Cisco DVRs. Be aware that you might require the 57KHz instead of the 38KHz models. A few people here were going to try some devices, but they failed to tell us what they found.
As far as I know, all USB ports on SA/Cisco DVRs have the +5v present.
