IR Extender for Cisco 4742 HDC
I have my cable box in a cabinet so I need and IR extender to operate my box. Can any one recommend one that is compatible? Do I need a dual band extender?

First, you better clarify the model number of your box. There is no 474HDC.
Secondly, do you want one that plugs into the back, or one that has an IR emitter?
The 4742HDC uses the 57KHz signal, so Cisco's Model IRE5712M, Part Number 1004648 is recommended. Also suggested is the one at http://www.cmple.com/p-165-dual-frequency-ir-receiver-sa-hdtv-dvr-and-directtv-h21.aspx
PLEASE report back what works for you.

Thanks, it's 4742HDC. I don't know much about the technology, but I was hoping that I could simply plug an IR extender into the back of the cable box and that would allow me to change channels without leaving the door open. We have an IR extender that came with our TV plugged into the TV. I am able to turn the TV and cable box on and off with the cabinet door closed, but I can't change channels.

Either one of the two parts that I gave you should do the trick.
