IR Extender for Cisco 4742 HDC

First, you better clarify the model number of your box. There is no 474HDC.

Secondly, do you want one that plugs into the back, or one that has an IR emitter?

I don't know much about the technology, but I was hoping that I could simply plug an IR extender into the back of the cable box and that would allow me to change channels without leaving the door open. We have an IR extender that came with our TV plugged into the TV. I am able to turn the TV and cable box on and off with the cabinet door closed, but I can't change channels.

Either one of the two parts that I gave you should do the trick.
