Internet speed/price changes

I have been with COX for a long time so know the history of my internet connection.  At one time I paid approx $20 a month for 3 meg download which caused some problems.  This was about a year ago so I called them about an upgrade to 5 meg download which was approx $30 a month.  In fact they told me the 3 meg serivce was not even available anymore because 5 meg is recommended at a minimum to do most things.  I even did speedtest.net before and after to verify the download speed.  So I now I noticed they just increased my internet cost to $40 a month and guess what the download speed is now back to the low 3 meg which is by the way still not recommended for many applications which suggest a minimum of 5 meg which explains a few things. Of course  now I can go to the next option for $55 a month which jumps all the way up to 18 meg download which is quite a jump.  I would say it probably takes an effort on Cox's part to maintain the 3 meg.  So I think you get the picture in that 5 meg is recommended but now their basic service is 3 meg again with nothing in between without going all the way to 18 meg.  I am to the point of filing complaints with any agency I can find as well as the better business bureau.  I am also shopping for other options.
