I was told that I could not get all of the HD premium channels that are available because I do not have Countour. I have two HD boxes but only get a limited amount of Premium channels. I have all 4 premiums.
Can someone at Cox please explain to me why do I have to pay for Contour to get more HD? What difference does it make with what type of HD box I have. There is no limitation to number of channels I can receive based on my HD STB.
I am paying for a premium channel, hence I should get HD/SD version of the channel and any apps the broadcaster provides (HBo GO, Max to GO etc.). This is blatantly wrong and no other provider does this. Would love an explanation on this decision.

What City are you in?
and what Model HD box do you have?
All of the *additional* Contour HD channels, (formerly Plus Pak HD) are not the usual MPEG2 video format.
They are all MPEG4/(H.264) and above the 900MHz frequency range.
Most of the older equipment, (all Scientific Atlanta branded models) Do not support MPEG4 and their tuners top out at 870MHz.
So you either need a newer model Cisco STB or DVR, running the Contour IPG (formerly Trio IPG)
Cox is only putting the Contour channels on the new Cisco boxes running the Contour IPG, not on any box running the Rovi IPG, which are all Motorola and Scientific Atlanta receivers, Cox also has some newer Cisco boxes running Rovi, that do not get the Contour HD channels.
Or an Retail CableCARD device that supports both MPEG4 and has a 1GHz tuner. (TiVo Premiere series, TiVo Roamio series, Samsung GX-SM530CF, SiliconDust HomeRun Prime, Ceton InfiniTV-4 or 6 )
A CableCARD and Tuning Adapter is only $2/mo

If you do not use OnDemnd much or could get by with HuluPlus instead, (On a Roku or some other device, The Samsung does not have HuluPlus)
The Samsung GX-SM530CF HD Cable Box and Streaming Media Player along with a CableCARD and Tuning Adpter may be for you.
