HBO Needs a Box?

Haven't had HBO in awhile, but when I previously did you could watch regular HBO without a cable box, the box was only needed to view the other seven or so HBO's.  Is that still true?  Would I be able to still watch standard HBO in a room without a cable box?

HBO does now require a box.  I believe it was a few years ago this change was made at their request.
