Fast Forward Jumps Five Minutes
When some combination of fast forward is pressed, the dvr jumps forward about five minutes. It appears to be if you press fast forward once and press play again quickly. It would be a really cool feature if it wasn't quite so long. A two minute jump would be ideal. I also looked in the manual and on this forum, and I don't see anything about this. Am I the only one? It only seems to work if you haven't pressed fast forward for a bit.

For a 15-minute skip go into FF and then press the right arrow (white circle keys.) I cannot duplicate your finding.

I once heard of a way to remap one of the keys to a 30second fast forward, the problem is the feature wasn't enabled on the Motorola receivers by Cox. Anyone know if this works with some of the new receivers and/or remotes? I understand Cox uses different remotes, but I would think URC would support simular coding across their platform.

There are four different speeds built in to the FFWD button on your DVR. Each successive press of the FFWD button increases the forward speed; pressing FFWD for a fifth time returns the program to normal speed. (You can also press PLAY to return the program to normal speed.)
Unfortunately, we don't support remapping the remote keys; however, if you can find a code that works for you to remap a key, you are certainly free to use it. The remote control support page that we reference most often is http://www.urcsupport.com/index.php. I hope this helps a bit!

It helps only in that it identifies this occurrence as a glitch rather than a planned feature.
I understand about the 15 minute jump (although once you jump the fifteen minutes, it stops fast forwarding so you have to start fast forwarding again to skip 30+ minutes...didn't have to do that with the old receiver ... but that is another issue entirely...and one that also leads me to complain about the button placement...and I could talk about that for quite a bit...).
I also understand about the different speeds...which brings up yet another issue...the different speeds on the old receiver backed up a second or two depending on the fast forward speed because it was so easy to go past your desired spot at the highest speeds. This does the same, but the calibration seems to be off...I always end up needing to use the back 7 seconds button, or even rewind to get it right. It could be that I'm still getting used to this new system...but I don't say that with much confidence.
More than anything I was curious to see if anyone else has had the weird fast forwarding thing happen to them. It does seem very random, and I can't duplicate at will. I do think the last few times it was happening and I was really trying to pay attention to the specific conditions were only when I was fast forwarding through what had been paused live tv (not a recorded program).
I have also noticed a few times when rewinding it will go back to the beginning of a program, or the beginning of where the channel was changed to that station, but much like the fast fowarding, I can't seem to pinpoint when this happens. It sounds like these are probably just glitches since you all are not aware of these issues.
I'm sorry if I sound contrary, I really only mean to be helpful and provide feedback. I like many features of contour, and if i can help make it a better product, I'm happy to do so. Thank you!
