i stopped being able to receive or send email starting yesterday. Now receive an error message "can't get mail" the user name or password for "cox" is incorrect. it doesn't matter if ti is on my iPad or desktop. i have not changed anything and my wife is receiving hers just fine. Not sure why hers would work and mine now doesn't. I can access it through webmail but that's way to much hassle, what is going on with the email? I'm using apple mail but so is my wife so not sure that should make a difference.
Thanks

This is a problem associated with Cox email on Apple products. When i called Cox Support they said it is caused by the server. When it happened to me, i got a different pop up (dialogue) box for sending and receiving. Occasionally i could receive by clicking on the GET MAIL button at the top left of the email page. Other times i had to wait 1 hour or more. The problem would clear itself without any action on my part. The Cox Help people walked me thru all of the settings and "ports"..... all of mine were correct. When the problem got worse, Cox switched some of us West Coast users to a server on the East Coast which improved things quickly. Later, the problem returned.
When the dialogue box said "incorrect password" or "server rejected the password", it didn't help if i re-entered the correct password.
I have not had the "send" problem for 2 months. I've only had the "receive" problem once in the last month and it cleared up in less than 10 minutes. My answer does not provide the fix for your problem. It is probably worth calling Cox Support to have them go thru your account. The chance of someone hijacking your account is very small but it is worth taking the time to check.

The Cox Network Security Team recently identified a number of Cox.net email addresses that may have been compromised and used to send spam and phishing emails. In an abundance of caution, access to those accounts was reset to that we could further clarify the situation with affected customers. Based on the details you provided, it sounds like your email account may have been affected. Have you tried resetting your password? Since we want to ensure that your account is safe from hackers and spammers, a new password is required otherwise the account will be locked again.
Change your password to something you haven't used in a while, and save the new password on your iPhone and other devices. If this doesn't solve the problem, please email my team at Cox.Help@cox.com so we can verify what's happening. Include your full name, address, and a link to this page.
