Electrical Outages

In the recent past, when Entergy had an electrical outage in the local area, we continued to receive TV and Internet signals. I have a whole house generator that automatically transfers to backup power.

Now, when Entergy has an outage, Cox does not provide their service for the duration of the electrical outage. Immediately upon restoration of grid power, TV and Internet service is also restored.

Interesting enough, during these nuisance electrical outages, we do not lose water pressure, AT&T phone, nor natural gas. Evidently these utilities are not dependent on Entergy to provide their customers with their products.

Obviously, Cox Communications has decided they will no longer provide or maintain their own power backup system during these nuisance outages of a couple hours or so, like they used to do.

We no longer get channel 107 Weatherscan either, just to point out Cox customers are continually asked to pay more and more, but are getting less and less.

I would guess a satellite TV signal would not go down if Entergy had an outage.

The cable signal moves with electrical current and depending on where the power outage is located, using a generator might not work if there is no power coming to the node. It's possible that previously the power was still getting to our equipment even though you didn't have power in your home. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
