DVR playback
I am not seeing where I can start playing back a program that is still recording. Can this be done or not?

Sure. You don't mention which firmware you are using (Passport? Contour?) so I'll assume Contour. Simply go to the "DVR LIST" page. Highlight and click on your program in the center window of Recorded Programs. That program will now play.
