Disappointed With Contour :(

I have so many problems with my Contour. My boxes freezes or experience severe lag when changing channels, or opening the On Demand menus, or navigating through menus and guides. Most of the time search functions do not working, boxes won't power down unless I unplug it from the wall and picture tiling / sound issues sometimes minor and sometimes severe.

On top of the technical issues I am unhappy with the functionality, the interface is clunky, it's very difficult if not impossible to find channels I have access to from the on demand menu, satellite boxes can't pause or rewind.

I had problems before the Contour with tiling and sound, the service people while very polite would only switch out the boxes, one time they went into the attic and added an amplifier or something. Nothing they do helps and it's really getting beyond frustrating.

There is so much I like about Cox, outstanding channel selection, no need for dishes but at this point the positives are losing a lot of there shine as the negatives begin to glare more and more.

From the sounds of things you have a lot going on there.  By chance are you getting any kinds of error codes along with these issues?

No, I don't get any error codes that I can recall.

Hello Brucifer,

What you are describing could be caused by a combination of issues. The client boxes can pause live tv, but the option must be turned on in the menu of each client box.  It is normally set to off by default. (This also uses a turner from the dvr box.) The tiling and freezing is more than likely a signal issue to or inside the home. (Especially if it happens on multiple boxes and a reset does not solve the issue.) My suggestion is for you to send us an email at cox.help@cox.com with your full address so we can research this issue further for you.

I too find Contour unreliable, clunky and going through too many screens to watch On Demand shows.  It's especially tedious when accessing Showtime HD. If using the "satellite" box for the primary viewing error you get many error codes such as channel not available, or show unavailable try back later or you are unable to load a show from your dvr list.  (To clear that I have to choose it from the "master" then I can load it to the satellite.)  Also frustrating is the closed captioning.  Pressing the closed caption button on the cox remote produces nothing...Instead you have to go through about 5 screens to get there.  From an ease of use perspective it's not there.  The only thing I like about it is the flexibility of recording more stuff simultaneously than I could ever want and the amount of data storage.  Since it's "digital" I'm surprised that when a show moves to a different channel and it's in the guide the DVR should pick up the move.  It needs to be "smarter."  Heck Tivo has had that capability for over 10 years...

I hate Contour too. I tell all my friends to avoid it at all cost! I wish I had a viable alternative to Cox, but I don't. They hold a near-monopoly in my area!
