I have been using Cox for a number of years. This year, after purchasing a new high speed modem, my connection speed is awful. I have to wait as much as 10 seconds for the first page of a web site to appear. I just downloaded an upgrade to one of my programs and it took 5 minutes to load a 48 meg file. That's awful.
Does anyone have a solution to this except change ISP's

Upload = 1.01 mbps Download = 5.23 mbps.
That does not seem right. It appears to behave like a 1.5 mbps connection. I checked with my friend's CenturyLink DSL and it was light speed better than my ISP connection.

Let's update the history of my ISP with Cox. Over several years, the only speed I purchased was MINIMUM 1 meg. It was just fine and plenty fast enough. Now, I have 5 meg and it's no where near what it was last year. I've seen this with my ISP back in Wisconsin. Every time the speed continues to be less and less as the actual speed has been increased.
What is happening? The speed checks give a clue. The smoothness of the internet connection is not there. It is handing out packets of data instead of a steady flow. Sort of like eating in spoonsfull rather than by a soda straw.
Sorry but this is something that makes me upset. I'm thinking that the port by which my Cox internet is being delivered is over saturated with users and the system can only deliver a bit at a time...my share, so to speak.

At the moment and for the last few hours Cox download speed has been around 10 Mbps though it should be 25 Mbps. the last time I either used these forums and/or contacted support the slowdown was caused by an areawide outage of some sort that extended minimally from the Fair Oaks area to Centreville to North Chantilly here in Northern Virginia.
Just a Heads Up that it may be happening again.
No, the problem, as before, is NOT local to my LAN.

I have been having a similar problem, I've been having my Xbox 360 been disconnected without any reason, and i cleared its Cache, and reseted the connection network, and there is no successful results.

Note that connectivity problems is NOT what this thread is about - it is about connection speed AND the two users that are on this forum announcing similar low connection speeds are both in Northern Virginia. To repeat myself, the last time I came here to note horrendously slow speeds (quite awhile ago) there were numerous reports, maybe NOT on this forum, that described a triangular area from, like, Fair Lakes to Chantilly to Centreville.

It doesn't appear there is anything alarming in those results. Are you able to try testing without the router and see if there is any difference?
