Copy Once / Copy Freely Flag
I would like to understand when cable cards with Cox will work as designed. The flag for "copy once" needs to be removed as it is with every other provider. I find it puzzling why Cox isn't even consistent within its own service area as the flag is set to "copy freely" in some areas. In addition, to get limited or no explanation as to why is also confusing.
I would like to have a work around or this removed. Cox - please don't read this and attempt to answer with FCC bogus regulations. This is not covered by an FCC regulation.

The CCI bytes are usually set by us when we do the various encoding. However, what those bytes are set to, are (sometimes) dictated by content providers. Also which group that does the setting can vary depending on content, so it gets even more convoluted. Most broadcast content is copy freely and premiums are copy once however it doesn't always work that way in every market. On Demand and PPV are copy protected & most Premium Channel shows are. Other programming is protected by the network. The copy protections standards we apply are consistent with the agreements Cox has with various programmers to carry their cable content.

Do you know why Cox hasn't made a list or support article defining the different markets and their copy restrictions? I think that would help reduce some of the confusion.

Content providers do NOT dictate this flag. This is strictly a decision by Cox. If it was content dictated by the providers then it wouldn't work in some states and not others - all Cox customers. Charter communications does not have this issue either so it is an issue with Cox.

I completely agree, Cox Reps keeps spouting that the Copy Protection is a part of their Carriage Agreements, If that were truly the case, then there must be some financial advantage, as in a lower cost per sub, per channel, but if that were the case, It would seem logical that every other provider would take the same type of deal to lower their costs, So why don't the other MSOs also apply Copy Once to everything? Becasue it really has nothing to do with Carriage Agreements and that line is total BS.
Many of the cable channel feeds in Arizona actually come from Comcast, and Comcast does not use Copy Protection, so Cox Arizona is adding the CCI Byte.
In November 2011, One call from someone in Atlanta to a contact in Phoenix, and they changed the flag to Copy Freely, after 10 days everything was flipped back to Copy Once and now the topic is taboo.
