Contour Out of Home Error

Upgraded to Contour today. Got the new DVR Record 2 receiver. Have had Contour on my ipad for a while. Was able to watch shows. Now that I have the new DVR it says I'm out of home when I'm sitting 10 feet from the DVR. I know that it sees the DVR because I created a profile on the DVR and it shows up in the app. How do I get it to work? Seems to be a very common problem. I've read several posts and nothing past, turn it off and turn it back on, has been posted. You just seem to close the post before any solution can be posted so no one can learn from someone elses problem.

On a side note, you can't search withing the Apps Forum because it is not a choice in the drop down menu. Makes it extremely difficult to navigate.

Do you have Cox internet, and are you connected to it on the Ipad? If so, try going here and see what ISP it says.

I have reinstalled the app

I have rebooted the modem and router

I am on a Cox network. I am connected to the Wifi on that network. All computers show the same IP address.

I have rebooted the DVR.

I have completely shut down the ipad and rebooted it.

Still saying I am out of home.

Where does the DVR get it's settings from because I have checked everything on my end?

But does that page I linked to say Cox? If that doesn't work, you might try changing the MAC address on your router so you get assigned a new IP. Its possible the IP you have now is not on record with Cox because its from a new block or something. I don't think its a issue with the DVR, because the "Out of Home" error comes up before you reach the DVR.

Also, exactly when in the process does it give that error? When you sign in with username and password? Before/after?

As I said, I have a Cox ip address. I checked on your link and the ISP says Cox. It even says my town and shows it on the map. I have had this Cox account for 18 years. Nothing new here.

It is seeing the DVR before the error because it asks which user on the DVR do I want to sign in as. I sign in as the primary and then says you are out of home.

Tech support contacted me about reprovisioning the cable box on their end. After they did whatever they did on their end it worked on my end. I can now get on without getting the out of home error.

Thanks

Did you happen to notice if your IP changed after words? What ever your IP is/was, for some reason they didn't have it on file attached to your account. Curious how re-provisioning fixed it so I can know more how to help others that may have this problem. Thanks!

My IP address has not changed.

Who exactly are you? Official Cox people have their name and title on their comments. You don't, so I'm wondering how you know if my IP is or is not attached to my account.

Some call me....Tim.  Just a nerd trying to help. This is a public forum, so anything you post here the whole world can see.

I don't. I am theorizing since you said re-provisioning fixed the problem. Thats why I was asking IF your IP changed. If your not comfortable saying, then by all means, don't.

PS. If your curious who I am for realz, send me a email at Trikein at gmail.com. I got nothing to hide.

I do not have a DVR but I have been watching Live TV through the Contour app on my IPad quite a bit. Suddenly, last night it says that it is in "Out of home mode" and will not let me watch anything. Also there is no option to change the mode. I Goggled it and evidently it is a common problem. Due to the sheer amount of questions and comments regarding this issue, I suspect that Cox knows that the app has problems. I have no idea what to do. Worthless app.
