Contour HD Receiver without a DVR, Is this an option?

Is it possible to get just a Contour HD Receiver without getting a Contour DVR?  If you only want access to the Contour HD channels that are MPEG4.

If yes, is the cost just $8.50/mo, the same as a regular HD STB?  and is self install available with this option?

At this time Contour is designed to be a whole home DVR platform and thus DVR service isn't separable.

Why? Contour is just Trio with a new marketing-friendly name. Trio was available in a NON-WHDVR system. What guide is put in the 4642HDC/4742HDC ??

The cable card master wants a cable box? Say it ain't so.

I am curious too why your looking for this. Is it because the recent SDV channel moves? The app?

On a simular topic, can you just get 1 Contour DVR host for the 6 tuners and bigger HD?

Hi Domino,

At this time, there is not a way to separate them out in our back office. Thank you for your feedback.

But no answer to my question "What guide is put in the 4642HDC/4742HDC ??"

I was mostly looking for clarification for the following posting that I answered, and I wanted to know if anything had changed.

My mother has only a Cox HD STB and I would like to be able to get her the 16:9 HD Guide that Contour offers.  I will probably just give her one of my TiVo Premieres that I am not currently using.

I also have one Cox HD STB (SA 4240HDC) running Rovi, that the wife uses sometimes to access OnDemand, and We used to subscribe to HowardTV OnDemand that required a Cox STB, and I would upgrade it to Contour if I did not need to get the Cox DVR.

Ahh I see. So is Passport Echo DOA in all markets now? Its been about a year since I had cable, but I loved my DCX3400.

Passport is still being used on all non-Contour STB/DVRs on both Motorola and SA/Cisco devices.

I am sure there are many more Passport devices than Contour devices in the field.

Passport R&D and updates are probably DOA though.
