I leave the tv on almost always when I'm home. I got the contour 9865 dvr today, and was shocked to find out that when a recorded show is paused after maybe 10 or 15 minutes instead of going to a screen saver like every other dvr or DVD player I've ever had it just shifts to live tv. It's usually extremely loud and interrupts whatever reason I paused the show. Not only does this waste power, add wear and tear to the tv, and make no sense...but it interrupts the reason why I paused the tv! I've gone through the settings and searched the forums, I don't think I'm missing a setting or anything.
I just don't understand how anyone would program it to I pause itself and blast live tv when the user paused it...and only after a very short time? Please show me the screen saver..

That is a function of Trio (Contour), not the DVR. It is to protect the HDD of the DVR. Trio (Contour) doesn't really have a screen saver. If the volume bothers you, hit the mute button before you leave. Future updates of Trio (Contour) may (or may not) include a screen saver, but it's not really needed, IMO.
[BTW, how does this increase "wear and tear" to the TV, or waste power?]

I had an old Motorola dvr, not the trio. It uses more energy as your tv's backlight doesn't dim, when you pause it it stays on in full. More energy is wasted when it goes to live tv, as then the receiver will not stand by and instead will kick on and play audio. More energy is wasted from the sub not going to standby. More wear and tear on the tv's backlight, again as it's on in full always since the dvr won't go to standby. I don't want to hit pause, then mute, I don't want the tv flashing after 10 minutes muted if I pause it and leave for a half an hour. I also don't want to have to the. Sit back down, go back through the dvr list, find what I was watching and hit resume. It's silly and inefficient. There's a reason why almost all electronic components have energy saving modes and screen savers.

I appreciate that you took the time to post your feedback! I think you have a good point. I've forwarded your suggestion to our software development team for consideration in future updates.

A) Motorola is a DVR brand, Trio is a program guide. The two aren't comparable.
B) Pressing "Mute" solves your sub problem, too. But one more button is too much for you?
C) If you're so concerned about saving energy, why do you leave your TV on all day?
D) Your's was the SECOND post mentioning the lack of screen-saver on Trio (Contour) guided DVRs (mine was the first.) Obviously, this is not a major concern amoung Trio (Contour) guided DVR users. Lack of PIP and CC functionality are easily more important.

A. PIP was a garbage feature that died immediately after it started. Get a second tv, easily fixed...and significantly better.
B. My viewing habits are not your concern, there is 0 argument that can be made why a paused show should flip to live tv after 10 or 15 minutes. The user paused it, it should stay paused. You're lacking up above if you think otherwise.
C. You troll people on a cox support forum to get your jollies, that's my idea of a good time too.
Seriously, put a screen saver on this. It's silly the way it is.

A. As I said, there are many more requests for PIP in this forum. Yours is the second complaint about the screen-saver (the other one wanted to know how to turn it OFF.) And, please tell me how to hook two TVs to one cable DVR to emulate PIP.
B. The reason for the 15-minute pause limitation is said to be to prevent damage to the HDD. Whether or not this is necessary is fodder for a new thread.
C. A childish retort, showing you have no idea what a troll is/does.
