Contour 2 Recording - HD Issue

Hi,

I have a specific channel that has issues when trying to record HD shows. If I search the show and set up recordings for HD preferred, it records on the SD channel instead of the HD channel. Then I had the thought to go directly to the HD channel and record it from their and restrict it to that channel only, and it still reverts to the SD channel. This is the only channel so far that has this issue and it is VERY annoying.

SD Channel: 4 KHOG2SD
HD Channel: 2004 KHOG CW

I noticed when I filter the channels to only show HD, channel 4 still shows which is indeed a SD channel. I have included some pictures showing how I set a recording from the HD channel and ended up with a recording of the SD channel.

Hi Murgy and Babbs,

We think we've finally resolved this Contour 2 recording issue. Our Bentonville store successfully recorded  KHOG CW HD on channel 2004 this morning.  Please test on your end and let us know the results. Thanks for your patience!

Looks like a glitch with the cloud DVR software. From what I have gathered, you tell DVR to record A, DVR tells cloud that you want to record A, cloud tells DVR what show to record. Its like automatic remote DVR scheduling. It's done this way so record request gets sent to all DVRs on the network so you can pick up a recording from one room at the same spot in a different room.

In your case, the DVR looks to be sending the correct message to the cloud, but something is going wrong after that. Notice on the right the show is marked "HD", so the guide still thinks it's a HD recording. I assume when you play back the recording its in SD? Try recording it as a manual recording? Not sure if this is Contour or Contour 2 manual, but see page 38-40 for instructions how.

This particular situation with the images was a manual recording set from the HD channel 2004 as I was watching, and when I go and click "watch" under saved it plays back in SD.

We have 3 shows set to record on the CW Network HD and they all play back as SD as well. We have done the reboot with the 20 second wait time unplugged etc, as well as have a live chat guy send signals and so far no luck.

The channel 4 which is SD has a small image in info saying it is HD when it is indeed an SD channel. Maybe that is just a bug, I am not sure, but everything on it is SD. I just returned to cox after leaving prior to contour being out due to dvr issues with HD, so I am hoping this can be solved, other than this issue I have also noticed CBS & CW won't automatically switch to the HD equivalent while the remaining channels do.

Did you use the manual recording option after hitting the record button on channel 2004? Or did you is there a way to set up a manual recording without preselecting the channel? Does it allow you to adjust the time?

Yea, and the bug causing the problem? Maybe the fact the SD channel is mislabeled as HD is confusing the DVR as to which one to record? I was hoping a manual recording would process the request different but if not, not sure what can be done. Maybe try scheduling it from the Contour 2 app?

Hi Murgy,

Welcome to the Cox Forums! The issue with channel 4/2004 is very odd, indeed. It's possible that our channel map is coded incorrectly, as Tecknowhelp suggested. Contour 2 doesn't provide a "manual" recording option as described on page 38 of the Contour Users Guide.

Thanks for providing so many pictures! I've forwarded your post to the Contour 2 team in your local market and asked them to test channel 4/2004. We'll update you as soon as we can!

Hi Murgy,

I reached out to the manager of the Bentonville store and had her test a recording on channel 2004. She was able to duplicate the problem exactly as you described! Our video team should be able to track down the source very soon. I'll keep you posted!

Hi,

it still records the SD version. Do I need to somehow reset or update my system?

Murgy and Babbs,

It was believed to be resolved. As you haven't seen a fix, please reset the Host DVR and try again. Please update us on your findings if this is still happening or not.

I have tried 3 different resets and the issue still exists:

  1. I reset the DVR via the reset button on the website
  2. I reset the DVR via the reset button located in the GUI of the Contour 2
  3. I reset the DVR via powering off, unplugging it from the power source, and unplugging the coax from the wall for a total of 30 seconds before powering on.
Is there anything else I can try to ensure whatever fix is synced to my box?

Hi Murgy,

Just to ensure this is *truly* fixed, I've asked the manager of the Bentonville store to run another test. I'll let you know what she says once she gets back to me. Thanks for letting us know that it's still happening!

This issue is not corrected. It still records the CW in standard def. I have reset the DVR box as requested but it has not made a difference. Please continue to work on correcting this issue.
