wees is correct, no the Cox DVR can't. It does have a Pandora app built-in to it can stream from Pandora but not youtube or a home media server system like dlna / Plex.
Adding a streaming device, like Roku, will get you going without a big investment.
What has been posted so far is correct. Our DVR boxes focus on the TV viewing experience. There are however streaming type appliances that will do some if not all of what you're looking for using your Internet connection.
I was a DirecTV customer until I moved into a place that is wired for Cox cable and doesn't allow satellite dishes. In my experience, both in features and reliability DirecTV is net superior.
I can't understand why Cox doesn't care to improve their product, to make it more attractive to their customers.
DirecTV is coming up with new features and improvements all the time, while in the 2 years I've been a Cox subscriber I can't recall seeing any improvement neither in features, nor with the bugs reported on these forums.
I agree with you, 140523, Contour has stagnated over the last few years. Seams like Cox is putting all development work into Contour 2 and ignoring the customers on the original Contour platform. Sometimes it feels like bug reports and feature requests fall on deaf ears.
That being said, I can't agree with your desire for features like media sharing and youtube. I would rather have Cox spend resources fixing the bugs and enhancing the cable TV experience. There are so many other ways of getting media sharing functions. IMHO, we don't need it as part of our CATV DVR. You have smart TVs, most blu-ray players, Roku, AppleTV, FireTV, Chromecast, etc all doing what you request, why spend resources on duplicating this functionality. But, sadly to say, I haven't seen Cox enhance the Contour platform either.
I haven't seen Contour 2 in action. I have read Cox is testing it in the San Diego market and don't know if it's expanded from there. I haven't heard anything about it being available here in Connecticut yet. All I know, it's a new IPG based on X1 technology licensed from Comcast. Here is Cox official page. The reason I posted about it is that it doesn't make sense that Cox would put a lot of resources into the original Contour if the new one is their future.

AllenP,
I don't know what Contour 2 is, if I can make the transition to it, and what does it imply.
Please comment!
Thanks ;)
