With the loss of WIBW; why can't Topeka get another CBS station in the interim. Yes, I would prefer to keep it local; but I want a CBS station. Isn't there a CBS station out of Kansas City? or Wichita, KS?

Cable companies must provide every local station (in your case WIBW) & can't choose whether or not to provide one or another or drop a local station at any time. We are required by law to receive permission from local broadcast stations to provide them in our channel lineup. Gray TV is withholding its programming because we won’t agree to a significant increase for programming that is free over the air. Cox is actively negotiating to get WIBW back at a reasonable price. At one point, the Congress/FCC was considering allowing the insertion of a distant signal when a stalemate exists in a retransmission negotiation. I am not sure of the status of this. It might be worth looking into. Methinks that the NAB probably killed off this idea. Also, WIBW lost its "must-carry" status when it opted for retransmission consent.
