Adding a Router

I have a SBG6580 modem/router. I wish to add a router to get 802.11AC quality. Is there any problem with adding a router to a modem that already has router capabilities? If no problem is there any procedures or notifications other than connecting the router to the modem and computer needed?

Yes, 2 routers in the same network is asking for problems.  You want to put the gateway into bridge mode, that way it will function as a modern only.  You can then add a router.  The other way is to replace the gateway with a stand a lone modern then add a router.
