Super Bowl LX on NBC 4 Broadcast in Spanish (Orange County, CA – Cox Cable)

My local Cox cable service in Orange County, CA broadcast Super Bowl LX on NBC 4 entirely in Spanish, even though the commercials were in English.

This was not a SAP or TV setting issue. I checked and re-checked all language and SAP options, reset my cable box, and tried alternate NBC channels (including 4.1). Every NBC feed on the cable box carried Spanish play-by-play while the ads remained English.

Cox technical support was unable to understand the issue and offered no solution. I was eventually forced to download the Cox Contour app, log in, and watch NBC via AirPlay to my TV. That stream buffered badly, and I missed the entire first quarter of the game.

Later, I installed the Contour app directly on Apple TV, which finally provided the English broadcast. Afterward, when I briefly switched back to regular cable (NBC 4), the game was in English for about 10–15 minutes — then abruptly switched back to Spanish again.

At no point did Cox acknowledge a broadcast routing issue, despite the clear mismatch of English commercials and Spanish game audio. This was incredibly frustrating during a major live event, and the lack of support or communication from Cox made it worse.

This experience has pushed me to cancel my Cox subscription. For a national event like the Super Bowl, this level of failure and support is unacceptable.

I'm very sorry to hear that you have gone through that experience especially during the Superbowl. I hope you reconsider. I've seen this happen but it's extremely rare. If this happens please contact us right away so that we can let our engineers know and get it rectified immediately. I do apologize.
