Can't pair remote to both TV and audio device

I recently had to exchange my Contour box for another one.  With the old box, I had my remote paired to both the TV (for power on/off) and my audio device. I have the same remote, but with the new Contour box I can't get it to pair with both again.  I can only get one or the other, but not both. 

It's an XR11-RF remote with an LG TV and Sony audio.  Any thoughts?  I've paired and unpaired a bunch of times and called support, but no luck.
