High latency on multiple games

Issue started ~6mo after a storm in my area and I've reached out to the techs at COX but no one has been able to help me out. Since then, I have replaced my modem twice, reset & updated my router and tested another router as well, replaced my Ethernet cable & the COAX, reloaded OS, installed an Ethernet card in my computer and the issue still persists. It persists throughout the day until late at night after 1am and in that time there are only 3 devices active on the internet. Issue occurs with the following games: Rocket League, Rainbow Six Siege, Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Killing Floor this is what I currently playing, im sure i'll get high latency on other games too.

Hi VikA,

Are you able to provide a traceroute to the game servers that you are going to at the present time? We want to see if we are able to see where the latency is coming from.

I don't know what the game servers are but I do have a tracker in game that constantly shows my latency jumping from ~30 -> ~120 and in some cases it will go up really high ~500 or ~1000

Hi VikA, I don't see anything abnormal in your traceroutes. The latency in Hop 5 of your traceroute to cox.com is most likely ICMP deprioritization. Some servers and routers down-prioritize ICMP echo requests. The traceroute hop that corresponds to a server down-prioritizing ICMP echo requests may show packet loss and/or latency. If the destination isn't affected in the final hop of the traceroute, all latency and packet loss is an artifact of router configuration (or other device configuration) and is not a problem. In your traceroute to amazon.com, the timeouts once the trace reaches the Amazon network are to be expected. Not all Amazon Web Services servers return ping requests; they block ICMP packets for network security reasons. Your modem metrics are all within preferred specifications. Do you have any issues streaming videos or music or uploading content to the web? Or does the latency issue only affect online gameplay? -Becky, Cox Support Forums Moderator

Latency issue only affects online gameplay. No issues in streaming youtube, netflix, hulu on ethernet or on wifi.

I can also share a screen-recording of the latency errors along with the built in tracker mid gameplay and you can see my latency fluctuate

Hi VikA, your signal levels look great, and we aren't detecting any packet loss. Would you be able to tell us what hard-wired speeds you're receiving, using the Cox Internet Speed Test tool?
